THE DOLOMITES - IN ORIGIN KILOMETERS OF BARRIER REEF

The Dolomites, even known as Pale Mountains, owe their name to the French mineralogist Déodat Dolomieu who has been the first to study and describe the dolomite rock and its characteristics.

250 million years ago, the Dolomites were just the seabed of a tropical marine environment.
During the years, hundreds of meters of sediments accumulated on the seafloor formed layers on layers of shells, corals, algaes which finally turned into rock.
Later, due to the collision of the European and African plates, the mighty Dolomites emerged more than 3000 meters above the sea level.
The Dolomites and its beauty are yet worldwide famous.
At sunrises and sunsets, when the Enrosadira Phenomenon occurs, pink, red and orange shades color the Dolomites and its sky.
Alta Badia: breathtaking emotions, priceless experiences. Don't miss them!
